How this dress fits
This is a fitted dress. Silk velvet is cut close to the body so it holds its line and shows the hand embroidery at its best — it runs smaller than our hand-dyed silk dresses. If you are between sizes, or would like any ease through the bust and waist, please size up. Our sizing follows standard UK measurements; see the size guide before you choose.
Not your size? Made to measure
This dress is cut in UK 8–14 — but our atelier will make it from a UK 6 to a UK 18, to your own measurements, for £50 more. Ready in the same 3–4 weeks.
Velvet is our most fitted cut, and the least forgiving. Petite or tall? We adjust the length at no extra cost. Bust, waist and hips in three different sizes? That is precisely what a commission is for.
Made to order. Each Velvet Atelier dress is hand-embroidered in Vietnam and produced in very small numbers. Your order will be with you within 3 weeks, including UK delivery time — order confirmation sent by email within 24 hours.
White roses on black velvet — there are few pairings in fashion as enduring, or as quietly dramatic. The Noir Rose makes that contrast its whole language.
The gown is cut from deep black silk velvet, a fabric chosen for its weight, its softness and the way its pile turns ordinary light into something richer.
Down the front, a spray of full-bloom roses is embroidered entirely by hand. The blooms are worked in ivory and soft cream, petal over petal, set among sage-and-gold foliage and lifted with small coral-red buds. The arrangement climbs the body like a single cut stem laid against the velvet.
The silhouette is elegant and assured — a slip gown with fine straps and a softly curved neckline, fitted through the body to a full maxi length.
Styling. Pearl drop earrings and a pearl necklace sit beautifully against the neckline. Keep shoes simple and tonal. A velvet wrap or stole adds warmth for cooler evenings.
Craftsmanship. Each Velvet Atelier gown is hand-embroidered in Vietnam by heritage artisan makers. The rose spray is built petal by petal in fine thread, a process of many patient hours, and every gown is produced in a very limited run — subtly unique, never identical.
Occasion. Black-tie events, winter weddings, anniversary dinners, gallery evenings and milestone occasions. A considered choice for the mother of the bride, and for collectors of artisan eveningwear.
