A soft, natural ivory — warm rather than stark. This is the white of undyed silk rather than of paper, and it is the most versatile piece we make: right for the bride, right for her bridesmaids, and right for a guest who does not want to compete with either.
A note on the colour: this is a hand-dyed silk, not a treated or coated one. There is no pearlised finish and no added sheen — the quiet lustre is the habotai silk itself. Expect a warm, natural ivory with a faint cream undertone, not a bright optical white.
Woven from 100% mulberry habotai silk and hand-dyed in small batches in Nha Xa, the silk village north of Hanoi where the craft has been handed down through generations. Each length is dried naturally on bamboo frames rather than by machine, so no two pieces are quite identical.
At 85 × 180 cm it covers the shoulders through a ceremony, drapes as an evening wrap after dark, and folds small enough to disappear into a clutch. For a floor-length version of the same shade, see our Ivory Silk Bridal Shawl at 85 × 300 cm. Silk is the traditional twelfth-anniversary gift, and this arrives gift-boxed and ready to give.
The detail
- 100% mulberry habotai silk, 10 momme
- 85 × 180 cm (33" × 70")
- Fine and semi-sheer — a fluid occasion wrap, not a warm winter shawl
- A warm, natural ivory — no pearlised finish, no added sheen, not an optical white
- Hand-dyed in small batches; gentle tonal variation is inherent to the process, not a fault
- Photographed in natural daylight — screens vary, so expect a soft cream-ivory
- Designed in England · Hand-dyed in Nha Xa, Vietnam
- Gift boxed as standard
How to wear it
- Bride — over the shoulders for a chilly ceremony, tonal against ivory and champagne gowns
- Bridesmaids — one shade across the party, ordered together so the dye batch matches
- Wedding guest — the safe, elegant neutral when you don't know the colour scheme
- Everyday — knotted once at the collarbone over navy or black, or wrapped as a headscarf
Reads softest against ivory, blush and pale grey; reads brightest against navy, forest and black. For a floor-length silk cape in the same ivory, see the Ivory Silk Bridal Shawl.
Care
Hand wash in cool water with a silk-friendly detergent. Rinse alone on the first wash, as natural dyes settle. Do not soak or wring. Dry flat in the shade; cool iron with a pressing cloth. The fine slubs and tonal variations of hand-loomed silk are marks of authenticity, not faults.

About Silk Habotai
Woven for centuries in Vietnam’s silk villages of Nha Xa and Van Phuc, habotai — “soft as down” — is prized for its featherlight drape and luminous sheen. Each Silk & Bears scarf is hand-dyed by artisans using traditional techniques, so no two pieces are ever identical.
