Indigo is a colour with memory. It is the blue of ancient dye vats, of trade routes and textile traditions that predate the written word — and in shibori, it finds its most natural expression. The resist pattern opens the silk into constellations of pale and deep blue, each piece a kind of map of the dyeing process that made it.
Hand-crafted in Nha Xa, northern Vietnam, a village where silk artisans have been refining dyeing techniques for more than 700 years. In the shibori tradition, the silk is bound tightly before being submerged in the dye; the pattern is formed by what the dye cannot reach. When the bindings are removed, the result is always a surprise — always unrepeatable.
