A deep, saturated marigold — the warm yellow of turmeric and temple flowers, with just enough orange in it never to look washed out. It is the strongest colour in our hand-dyed range, and the one that carries furthest across a room.

A note on the colour: marigold is a dye, not a finish. There is no metallic thread, no foil and no shimmer — the light you see in the photographs is the natural lustre of habotai silk. In daylight it reads as a clean, warm yellow; under evening and candlelight it deepens towards amber. It is far stronger than our Golden Yellow, which is a soft pale butter, and a world away from our Champagne, which is a quiet neutral.

Woven from 100% mulberry habotai silk and hand-dyed in small batches in Nha Xa, the silk village north of Hanoi where the craft has been handed down through generations. Each length is dried naturally on bamboo frames rather than by machine, so no two pieces are quite identical.

At 85 × 180 cm it covers the shoulders through a ceremony, drapes as an evening wrap after dark, and folds small enough to disappear into a clutch. It is a natural choice for Eid, for Diwali, and for any occasion that calls for warmth rather than restraint. Silk is the traditional twelfth-anniversary gift, and this arrives gift-boxed and ready to give.

The detail

  • 100% mulberry habotai silk, 10 momme
  • 85 × 180 cm (33" × 70")
  • Fine and semi-sheer — a fluid occasion wrap, not a warm winter shawl
  • A saturated warm yellow — no metallic thread, no foil, no shimmer
  • Stronger than our Golden Yellow; entirely unlike our Champagne neutral
  • Hand-dyed in small batches; gentle tonal variation is inherent to the process, not a fault
  • Photographed in natural daylight — screens vary, and warm yellows shift most of all under artificial light
  • Designed in England · Hand-dyed in Nha Xa, Vietnam
  • Gift boxed as standard

How to wear it

  • Eid and celebration — over the shoulders, or wrapped and pinned as a headscarf
  • Evening — draped over one shoulder against black, aubergine or forest green, where it reads richest
  • Autumn wedding — the warm alternative to a neutral wrap, for a candlelit or late-season ceremony
  • Everyday — knotted once at the collarbone to lift denim, camel or grey

Strongest against black, navy, aubergine and forest green. If you want a softer, paler yellow, see our Golden Yellow Silk Scarf; for a quiet neutral for a bridal party, our Champagne Silk Scarf is the shade to choose.

Care

Hand wash in cool water with a silk-friendly detergent. Rinse alone on the first wash, as natural dyes settle. Do not soak or wring. Dry flat in the shade; cool iron with a pressing cloth. The fine slubs and tonal variations of hand-loomed silk are marks of authenticity, not faults.

About Silk Habotai

Woven for centuries in Vietnam’s silk villages of Nha Xa and Van Phuc, habotai — “soft as down” — is prized for its featherlight drape and luminous sheen. Each Silk & Bears scarf is hand-dyed by artisans using traditional techniques, so no two pieces are ever identical.
