Copper and black in the language of shibori — intricate, precise, quietly dramatic. The ancient resist-dyeing technique reveals its geometry slowly: cluster by cluster, fold by fold, a pattern emerges that no two dyeing sessions can exactly repeat. On copper, this depth is extraordinary.

Hand-crafted in Nha Xa, a village in northern Vietnam where artisan silk traditions have been preserved for more than 800 years. The shibori process begins long before the silk meets the dye: the fabric is bound, folded, or clamped with intention, and the pattern is revealed only when the bindings are undone. It is a technique that demands patience and rewards it with singular beauty.

Woven from 100% pure mulberry habotai silk — featherlight, naturally lustrous, and ideal for shibori work, which relies on the silk's ability to absorb rich, complex colour.

  • Fabric: 100% pure mulberry habotai silk
  • Technique: Traditional shibori resist-dyeing in copper and black — each piece unique
  • Wear it: Draped over the shoulders, knotted at the neck, or folded as an elegant headscarf
  • Feel: Featherlight, breathable, and richly textured in colour
  • Gift: A rare and artisan gift — handmade in Vietnam
  • Care: Hand wash cold or dry clean

About Silk Habotai

Woven for centuries in Vietnam’s silk villages of Nha Xa and Van Phuc, habotai — “soft as down” — is prized for its featherlight drape and luminous sheen. Each Silk & Bears scarf is hand-dyed by artisans using traditional techniques, so no two pieces are ever identical.
